With Hampshire's unfortunate closure, the golf team has had to find a new place to play.
Most people know the recession struck Larchmont in many
harsh ways. One of the most extreme cases was the closing of Hampshire Country
Club. This was a golf club to which many residents in the area belonged, but
more importantly, it was the home golf course of the Mamaroneck Tigers.
Hampshire was a very practical course for the Tigers due to its proximity to
the high school.
However,
with Hampshire in bankruptcy, the Tigers were forced to find another place to
play. This transfer was not as bad as it seems, though. The Tigers’ new
practice facility is Bonnie Briar Country Club, another local course. Their
home courses are now Bonnie Briar and Winged Foot Golf Club; the latter was the
home of the U.S. Open in 2006. “Both of these courses are amazing, so I don't
think anybody on the team would be too upset about Hampshire,” golfer Hayden
Novikoff ’10 said.
The
Tigers, as of yet, seem to be more adaptable than homesick, winning their first
league match.
