After three years, Mamaroneck Lacrosse reclaimed the Section 1 Class A championship title. After three consecutive losses to Scarsdale in the championship, Mamaroneck took down Carmel 14-9 in the championship game, going on to win regionals.

Charlie Ramsay (’25), a member of the lacrosse team, spoke of the win, stating that it was a bit “disappointing that the team didn’t get to go against Scarsdale,” but nonetheless, this is a great achievement. Mamaroneck was still able to assert its dominance over Scarsdale in the regular season, securing a 13-6 victory, winning Mamaroneck a league title and the number-one seed in the playoffs. Mamaroneck rolled into the Sectional Finals, defeating Wappingers 16-1 in the quarterfinals and White Plains 17-2 in the semifinals.

These victories gave Mamaroneck confidence going into the year’s biggest game. Still, the section championship was a difficult game. At the end of the first quarter, the Tigers trailed Carmel 4-2. Captain Brady Rogoff (’24) spoke to the strenuous first quarter, noting how “they came out hot, and we knew that was going to happen, but we also knew that if we stayed with the game plan and wore them down, things would go our way.” The Tigers anxious not to perpetuate the cycle that defined the section championship the past four years, took over the second quarter, entering the halfway mark up by 7-5. They carried this energy over into the second half of the game, with faceoff specialist Harlan Glassman (’25) winning 72% of faceoffs, giving Mamaroneck the majority of possession throughout the game–a key advantage that it has lacked in the team’s final games in the past three years. By the end of the third quarter, the Tigers had extended their lead to four goals.

Despite Carmel’s efforts, Mamaroneck maintained its lead until the final whistle blew. Gear flew into the night sky as the team celebrated. Teammates hugged one another, rejoicing over their victory. The Seniors were particularly emotional, winning their first section championship in any sport in their high school careers. After losing in his first three championship games, captain Luke Brennan (’24) stated that the “game meant the world. I did not sleep last night, at all. I couldn’t see myself going home without a win.”

Mamaroneck Lacrosse alumni were there to celebrate with the team, hugging and celebrating with the team in the stands. The celebration continued through the night as fire trucks met the team’s bus at the Mamaroneck Fire Department. The bus was escorted back to MHS by the fire trucks, where they met loved ones and friends who were there to celebrate the team’s victory.

The Tigers took on Shenendehowa on Saturday, June 1st, in the Regional Championship at Lynch Academy in Amsterdam, NY. The Tigers avenged their early-season loss to Shen and defeated them 7-5 in a game that came down to the wire. The Tigers eventually fell 9-8 in the State Semifinal game to Farmingdale, playing in the program’s second- ever state semifinal game.

Although the season did not end exactly how the Tigers wanted it to (with a state championship), there is much for the team to celebrate. Congrats to the Tigers and all of MHS has high hopes for the 2025 season!
