These two books have gained staggering popularity throughout the past few years through Tik- Tok. Emily Henry is considered a literary genius by many, writing romance stories like no other, as many of her fans note that her novels are the perfect blend between being a comical pastime and a tug on the heart. For many readers, her warm, heartfelt stories are viewed as the ultimate escapism for all who crave a cozy read. Therefore, Funny Store had high hopes to live up to.
Fortunately, it seems like the novel has been a success; thus far, the book has received around 17,000 reviews averaging to a 4.50 star rating on Goodreads.
Funny Story follows the extremely organized and put together Daphne whose life falls apart after she gets dumped by her fiancé for his childhood best friend, Petra. She is left with nothing but a-mess-of-a-life as a broke librarian in Waning Bay, Michigan. Well until her disheveled opposite, Miles, who also happens to be Petra’s ex, accepts her roommate request. Both contradictory roommates agree to steer clear of each other, until their tragic miseries cause them to construct an agreement to fill their loneliness, which includes posting deceptive pictures of both of them together (Goodreads).
