Popular #1 New York Times bestselling rom-com author Emily Henry just released her newest novel, “Funny Story,” on April 23rd, 2024. Many fans have been eagerly awaiting this release since the release of her last book in 2023.

Avid Mamaroneck High School (MHS) readers have likely heard of these popular titles by Emily Henry by now: Beach Read and People We Meet on Vacation. These two books have gained staggering popularity throughout the past few years through Tik- Tok. Emily Henry is considered a literary genius by many, writing romance stories like no other, as many of her fans note that her novels are the perfect blend between being a comical pastime and a tug on the heart. For many readers, her warm, heartfelt stories are viewed as the ultimate escapism for all who crave a cozy read. Therefore, Funny Store had high hopes to live up to.

Fortunately, it seems like the novel has been a success; thus far, the book has received around 17,000 reviews averaging to a 4.50 star rating on Goodreads.

Funny Story follows the extremely organized and put together Daphne whose life falls apart after she gets dumped by her fiancé for his childhood best friend, Petra. She is left with nothing but a-mess-of-a-life as a broke librarian in Waning Bay, Michigan. Well until her disheveled opposite, Miles, who also happens to be Petra’s ex, accepts her roommate request. Both contradictory roommates agree to steer clear of each other, until their tragic miseries cause them to construct an agreement to fill their loneliness, which includes posting deceptive pictures of both of them together (Goodreads).

Most fans seem to rage about this new sensational work of art, with one fan and fellow MHS student, Mia Waksman (’25), exclaiming “I’m absolutely thrilled about Henry’s latest release, Funny Story! Having thoroughly enjoyed her previous works, such as People We Meet on Vacation and Happy Place, I can’t wait to read her newest novel.” Even MHS teacher, Christine Prezioso, is ecstatic about this new release.

Prezioso shares that she“was so excited for it! And on the day it came out, I was waiting on Libby [an e-library], and I kept refreshing my page to try to get a copy since there were only two copies.”

Deemed one of the “Most Anticipated books of 2024” by many popular news outlets such as The New York Times and TIME (Goodreads), Funny Story is guaranteed to be an enjoyable read.
