After falling to Suffern in the quarterfinals of the sectional playoffs in 2023, the Mamaroneck Tiger Football Team looks to bounce back this season with an even more successful campaign. Their success seems inevitable, considering they returned the majority of their key players from last season. With an older and more experienced team, the Tigers look to return to the Sectional Final for the first time since 2022.

Perhaps the two most significant parts of this year’s team are captains Harlan Glassman and Mika Barry-Thouez. The two captains are entering their third season as starters for the Tigers and have been integral to the team’s success the past two years. They were both recently honored by Lohud Sports when they were put on the “Elite 11 Watchlist.” Barry-Thouez and Glassman (both ‘25) were the only members of the Mamaroneck football team to make this list, so expectations for the two of them are exceptionally high.

When asked about the team’s goals for this season, Glassman said, “Everyone’s goal is to win a section championship. However, it starts by taking it week by week, especially with the toughness of the new league. Early on in the season, it is important to improve game by game so that we are geared to make a playoff run in October.” Glassman suffered a partially torn ACL during last year’s season and, as a result, missed four of the Tigers’ games. He hopes that he and the rest of the team can stay healthy throughout the season to ensure the team succeeds and improves in every game. Glassman stressed the importance of the team staying healthy.

“The more games a group can play together, the better because once playoffs come around, consistency and chemistry are key,” Glassman said.

Barry-Thouez shared a similar goal for the team: to win as many games as possible.  Mika expressed how excited he was to play with his friends and teammates one last time. “These are the guys I grew up with, and playing with them this year is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Barry-Thouez said. He said that winning is special in itself, but winning alongside your best friends makes it much more special.

Both the school and Mamaroneck community will be excitedly watching the Tigers compete from the bleachers, and we all hope this season will be one filled with historic success.
