On February 27th, 13 chaperones, the MHS music department, and 129 students from the Mamaroneck High School (MHS)  symphony orchestra, chorus, and concert band will embark on an exciting five-day trip to Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

The trip marks Mamaroneck’s first visit to Disney and will involve trips to all four parks, once in a lifetime workshops, and performing for the public at Disney Springs.

“This is truly a special opportunity for everyone involved as we will be incorporating our music and getting a chance to perform together in the most magical Place on Earth,” said Elyse Mullen, the MHS Orchestra teacher.

While students will have to miss two school days for the trip, their time will be well spent as they will engage in a fun-filled itinerary, which includes visiting the iconic Magic Kingdom, exploring the wonders of EPCOT—including witnessing “The Luminous Symphony of Sound Fireworks,” visiting Animal Kingdom, and experiencing the magic of Hollywood Studios.

Jackie Mannix (’26) is most excited to visit the parks, perform Disney music, and socialize with classmates. Dacey Atkins (’28) is thrilled about the big rides and rooming with friends. Claudia Castro (’26) is eager to try the Mickey Pretzel and connect with her classmates from different ensembles. With this being the first year on the trip and such a large group attending, the excitement and enthusiasm is palpable.

The trip kicks off bright and early with a 3:00 a.m. departure from MHS. Students will be divided into their designated coach buses and embark on a journey to either Newark, LaGuardia, or John F. Kennedy Airport to catch their flights. Upon arriving in Orlando, they will settle in at Disney’s All-Star Resort before packing their park essentials and heading straight to Magic Kingdom–home to iconic attractions like Big Thunder Mountain and Space Mountain.

The second day begins at 5:00 a.m. as students prepare for a unique and exciting workshop. This 2.5-hour session, led by guest clinicians—professional musical educators and artists—focuses on sight-reading and working on Disney movie soundtracks. “A lot of the workshop has been left as a surprise for the directors and students, as Disney loves to stay magical,” explains Mullen. After the workshop, the group will spend the rest of the day exploring EPCOT, culminating in a breathtaking fireworks display to end the evening.

After a well-earned night’s rest, The students will wake at 7:00 a.m. to prepare for the trip’s most anticipated event–the grand performance day. Beginning at 11:00 a.m., the Symphony Orchestra will take the stage, followed by the Concert Band, and concluding with the Choir in a spectacular three-hour MHS performance on the Waterside Stage in Disney Springs.

Open to the public, this performance will feature an entirely Disney-themed program, showcasing the students’ talents and dedication. The orchestra has been preparing Beauty and the Beast, Go the Distance, Colors of the Wind, and Pirates; the band has been practicing Moana and Disney Spectacular; and the choir will perform Another Day of Sun, It’s Alright, Found/Tonight, and Vuelie. Following the performance, students will spend the remainder of the day exploring Animal Kingdom, home to the exhilarating Expedition Everest. The day will conclude with the mesmerizing Tree of Life Awakenings Show, a dazzling display of lights that brings the iconic Tree of Life to life.

On the final day, students will pack their belongings and instruments, preparing to bid farewell to Disney. The last adventure takes place at Hollywood Studios, home to thrilling attractions like the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster—one of the park’s most intense rides. As the trip comes to a close, students will head to Orlando International Airport for their return flights. After a long journey back, arriving at MHS around midnight, they will return with unforgettable Disney memories, cherished souvenirs, and lasting friendships. Though this year’s trip will come to an end, the MHS Music Department is hopeful to continue this magical tradition for years to come.
