Mamaroneck’s Varsity Boys’ Lacrosse team has extremely high expectations for 2025. Last season, the Tigers finished with an overall record of 14-7, winning the section championship in the spring of 2024 before ending with a heart-crushing loss to Farmingdale in the state semifinal. Led by head coach Jeff Barnard, these dedicated athletes are working behind the scenes during the off-season to get back where they belong: the State Championship. The Tigers had a plus-78 goal differential last season and went 4-0 against teams in their league, outscoring them 61 to 14.
This success does not come easily. The Tigers spend three days a week during the winter preparing for the season ahead. These workouts consist of an hour practicing on the field, a mile run on the track, an hour lifting in the weight room, and finally a core workout to conclude the day. When asked about the teams’ goals for this year, defender Henry Doherty (’27) simply answered, “to be state champions.”
To the players, the team is a family. With trips to Chipotle after winter workouts and team dinners during the season, the unity of the team is a large factor in their success. Winning a state championship is a challenging task, but after all of their preparation, they are in a prime position to contend amongst the best in the state.
After coming off an extremely successful season, there is optimism among the team. The team knows they have what it takes to win, and they are looking forward to showing it on the field.
“I’m super excited for this season because I’m playing with a ton of my best friends and the team dynamic is looking really strong,” states Brian Auker (’26), three-year varsity member and captain for the 2025 season.
Although the team has many returning players, they have also lost a few stars. The Tigers, however, have confidence in their ability to adjust to the departures of last year’s seniors.
“Obviously the seniors last year were very talented but we have a lot of returning players and guys who are going to step up,” mentions Auker. Having fallen short of victory in recent seasons, the team’s focus on improvement during the offseason is setting them up to flourish in big games. The team’s hard work and dedication during the winter season reflect their dedication to achieving their ultimate goal: bringing home a state championship to Mamaroneck High school.
