Addison Dorfman is a junior captain on both the Mamaroneck Basketball and Volleyball teams. Playing for varsity volleyball since freshman year and a standout varsity basketball starter since eighth grade, she has contributed significantly to both teams’ successes, leading the volleyball team to the league championship this year and the basketball team to the section semifinals last season.
Last year at the Mamaroneck Basketball’s semi-final game at the County Center in White Plains, Dorfman grabbed her 1000th rebound as a sophomore. One year later, fans filled the Palmer gym in anticipation as she prepared to score her 1000th career point, a special achievement for high school basketball players. We have all witnessed Dorfman’s greatness on the court, but what led Dorfman to reach this remarkable milestone in her basketball career?
Coach Yusef Yizer, the girl’s varsity basketball coach, believes that scoring 1000 points is an accomplishment that is going to transform not only the Mamaroneck basketball program but also Dorfman’s bright future.
“The girl’s basketball program only has three other players who have scored 1000 points in their high school career. Knowing that I got to coach one of them is an honor,” Yizer said.
Not only is Dorfman one of the three who have achieved this milestone, but she is also the only player to score 1000 points and grab 1000 rebounds, a success Coach Yizer feels stems from Dorfman’s hard-working spirit.
For Dorfman, reaching this milestone is more than just numbers—it’s a testament to years of dedication and passion for the game. She credits her incredible work ethic and effort for her success.
“Every time I step on the court, I try to take advantage and go all out, whether it’s in practice or games,” she states.
Looking back at her incredible achievement, Dorfman describes that moment as “surreal,” reflecting on what it meant to share it with those who have supported her along the way.
“To shoot that shot with so many people around me—my friends, family, and coaches who have been with me my whole entier basketball career was just unforgettable.”
In the off-season, Dorfman plays for an AAU club team called Northeast Elite. The high level competition her team faces challenges her and also exposes her to college scouts looking to add to their programs. There is no doubt that Dorfman will be playing at the xnext level, and the Mamaroneck community couldn’t be prouder.
As the Tigers gear up for the Section 1 playoffs, make sure to come out and watch Dorfman and the Mamaroneck Tigers. make more history this season.
