If you haven’t been following the Mamaroneck boys’ varsity golf team this season, you probably should start. The Tigers, rebranded on Instagram as @murdaputt, have stormed out to an 11–1 record this spring, tying school records, taking down longtime rivals, and proving they’re the team to beat in Section 1.
The turning point of the season came on April 28, when the boys beat Scarsdale 196–205. It was the team’s first win over the Maroon squad since 2016, snapping an eight-year losing streak. The win was even sweeter because it came with a ridiculous team score of 196, one of the lowest in program history.
Before that, Mamaroneck had already built momentum. Earlier that week, they knocked off Bronxville, Yonkers, Blind Brook, and Rye Neck jumping out to a 7–1 record. The biggest moment from that run was at Quaker Ridge Golf Club, where the team tied the school record with a score of 193. That mark matched the lowest team round ever recorded by MHS golfers, and it shows just how deep this squad is from top to bottom.
Senior Mikey Dillon has led the charge all season, putting up steady scores and setting the tone with his leadership. He’s backed by a strong junior class — Cam Ventura, Quinn Marchant, and Finn Kahl — who have all stepped up to deliver clutch rounds. Sophomore Mikey Lelli has also made a name for himself, consistently posting scores in the 30s. Just last week against White Plains, Lelli recorded a 40, with Dillon firing a 38 and Ventura and Kahl both coming in at 39. The Tigers finished with a team score of 197, easily taking down White Plains, which shot 279.
The team has also picked up wins against Eastchester, Horace Greeley, and others to get to their current 11–1 record. With just a few matches left before the postseason, Mamaroneck is in a great position to make a run at the league title and possibly sectionals.
Ethan Stock, a Junior on the team, said, “It’s an amazing experience to be a part of a team this talented. Even though I don’t go out and play in every match, I still love being a part of the team. Watching my teammates shoot scores in the 30s is quite the experience.”
Coach Rizzuti and the team have something special brewing this year. With a combination of experience, young talent, and undeniable team chemistry, MurdaPutt isn’t just playing well — they’re building a legacy.
