After nearly two decades of dedicated leadership, Mamaroneck High School girls’ soccer coach Ronald Blain has announced his retirement, marking the end of an era for the Tigers.
Throughout his tenure, Blain was an integral part of the Mamaroneck soccer community, inspiring countless players with his deep knowledge of the game and commitment to their growth both on and off the field.
Blain’s decision to retire comes as he looks forward to spending more time with his family, particularly helping his daughter develop as a player. Coaching during the busy fall seasons often meant missing her games, and now, Blain is excited to be more present in her athletic journey. He shares, “Coaching has allowed me to take what I learned and help others grow, both as athletes and as people,” when reflecting on his coaching journey.
Despite the bittersweet feeling of stepping away from the sidelines, Blain is optimistic about the future of the program. He is confident that the team is in good hands, with a strong foundation and a talented group of underclassmen ready to continue the success of the program.
Blain’s career was marked by numerous highlights, but his greatest pride lies in seeing his players develop both as athletes and individuals. “My favorite aspect of coaching is seeing my players evolve and reach their potential, both on the field and beyond,” Blain notes. He continues, professing that he “love[s] seeing their accomplishments, whether they happen in high school or later in life.”
The future looks bright for Mamaroneck girls’ soccer, with only five seniors graduating this year. The team has a talented core of underclassmen poised to carry the program forward. Standout sophomore Greta Norman, a two-year varsity player, expresses confidence in the team’s potential: “We have a very young, skilled team, and we’re motivated to grow from last year. Our goal is to take the section title.”
This past season has been one of great achievement, and Blain is especially proud of the Tigers’ victory over Scarsdale, the top team in the section, on their home turf. The win was a significant accomplishment for the team, and Blain also praised their performance in home games, noting that they “protected the turf.”
As Blain prepares to step away, his legacy will undoubtedly live on through the players he mentored and the foundation he built. The Tigers are determined to carry that legacy forward, with a focus on continued success and striving for greatness in the seasons to come.
