Deck the MHS Halls

Holiday decorations in the MHS hallways.

As fall gives way to winter and the crisp air settles in, the holiday season has arrived. The period from Thanksgiving to the end of the calendar year is full of celebrations and fun in the snowy weather.
This winter at Mamaroneck High School, holiday spirit is as present as ever. Throughout MHS, you can find hallways decorated according to the season with the Student Council working hard to create a fun and festive atmosphere throughout the school.
While walking through the overpass, students see the walls adorned with wreaths, Christmas lights, snowflakes, as well as inflatable snowmen, creating an atmosphere that students have come to enjoy.
Freshman Caleb Feldman (‘28) says that decorations bring a pop of color to our school and create an exciting atmosphere. Feldman remarks that decorations can “distract students from the stress of school during the winter months.”
Student Body President Robby Grimes (‘26) believes that decorations will “get everyone excited for the upcoming holidays, but also put them in a generally good mood as the [Holiday season] is just around the corner!”
In addition to decorating the hallways, our school is hosting new and old traditions to bring the holiday spirit to our community. The Winter Spirit Week featured a new holiday theme every day, providing students with an easy way to participate in the fun. From cozy pajama outfits to Grinch costumes, the themed days filled classrooms and hallways with laughter and conversation as students compared outfits and took photos with friends.
In a similar fashion to November’s Fall Fest, the overpass was transformed into a Winter Wonderland for the Winter Fest. The Winter Fest featured holiday games, music, and baked goods. Grimes remarked that the Student Council’s hosting events like these “brings our school community closer together. Everyone is ideally in a better mood around the holidays, and our holiday events this year will strengthen the sentiment that MHS is not just a high school, it’s a community,” he added. Grimes hopes that all of the winter festivities and decorations are able to help spread holiday cheer amongst the students and boost student morale as we approach winter break.
