On November 21st, 2025, the second Wicked movie hit the theaters. After the open ending of the first movie, Wicked Part Two was greatly anticipated by all, with theaters buzzing with moviegoers and many sold-out shows. Wicked: For Good, like the first movie, stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba Thropp and Ariana Grande as Glinda the Good Witch.
The rest of the cast includes Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Yeoh, clearly a talented cast. Noa Lubling (‘28) thought that the casting was well done and “the leads had good chemistry together.” However, she noted that one improvement could have been to feature the actress who played Dorothy a bit more.
The movie followed the second half of the story adapted from the Broadway musical Wicked. While Glinda the Good Witch happily serves as a public figure to Oz, her old school friend Elphaba is protesting the oppressive Wizard and Madam Morrible who rule Oz. Their friendship is a prominent factor in the decisions they make throughout the movie. Zoe Prins (‘28) enjoyed watching the characters “evolve over time during the movie,” and that she “loved seeing their friendship grow.”
Following in the footsteps of the original movie, the costumes and sets were beautifully designed. Lubling said that the costumes were beautiful, with“so much attention to detail,” pointing out the well made Munchkin costumes. She also said that “seeing the whole emerald city” set was a highlight of the show. Xenia Lech (‘28) appreciated the sets made for special Elphaba and Glinda scenes, calling them “amazing and super creative.” Prins said she loved the costumes and would have wanted any of the dresses the cast adorned in the movie. Comparing the sets to the original movie, Prins said that the sets in Wicked: For Good were “once again gorgeous.”
Overall, it is a well rated movie. It got a 70% on Rotten Tomatoes. Both Lech and Lubling gave it an 8/10 as the message and ending were very strong. However, there were a few flaws. Prins found the ending not to be satisfying as she was left with “lots of unanswered questions,” which she explained is okay for other movies, but Wicked: For Good was not “the kind of movie to do it with.” Prins agreed with Sasha Grossman (‘28) that the plot twists in the movie were not helpful or necessary to the plot. Lubling noted that “there were empty parts” in the middle of the story that “got boring.”
Lech found that “the new songs were unnecessary, and didn’t add much to the movie in general.” Lech took more of a liking to the first movie, Wicked, rather than Wicked: For Good, because she thought that there was more action in the first movie. However, overall, the movie was a satisfactory sequel. Lech pointed out that “the movie did well in the area of immersing you into the story and world, and it makes you feel what the characters are feeling.”
While it is not perfect, Wicked: For Good is a glorious end to a wonderful story. The themes of friendship, trust, and collaboration are evident throughout the movie, and changed the audience members for good.
