With course selection for next year coming in February, exciting new courses are being excitedly awaited. AP World History: Modern for 10th graders, will cover world history from 1200 CE to present day and can be taken instead of regular 10th grade Global History. There will also be two new courses in the computer science department: AP Cybersecurity for 11th and 12th graders, which covers cybersecurity and other related topics as well as College Web Design for 11th and 12th graders, in which students will be taught the history and development of the internet and will learn to design websites. With so many new classes to take, many are excited for the upcoming possibilities.
When asked about the new courses for next year, Counselor Christina Hoshizumi responded that it is “exciting for students to have more opportunities to explore interests and build upon skills.” Some, however, view the addition of these new courses as missed opportunities. Reagan Hild (’28) stated, “I feel like I missed out on having an AP during sophomore year, which is frustrating, especially for people who are interested in history.” Whatever people may think of the new courses coming to MHS, there’s no denying that everyone is excited for new and more advanced classes next year.
Many students are interested in advanced placement (AP) courses and for good reasons. Taking AP courses and scoring well on the AP exam can earn you college credit. These credits can save students a great deal of time and money when in college. MHS offers a wide range of AP courses, and they are listed by grade order below, with prerequisites mentioned. However, it’s important to note that AP courses aren’t always the best for everyone, and you should take courses that are just the right amount of rigor for you. For more information regarding course selection, please visit your counselor or the 2026-2027 course catalog on the MHS academics page.
