Mamaroneck Spring Track is racing to the top this season
Ready, Set, GOld

The Spring of 2026 marks a record-breaking season for Mamaroneck Track and Field—and it’s not over yet. The remainder of the season holds exciting possibilities and mountains of potential for MHS. With over 150 athletes making up the program this year, this team is stronger than ever.

Entering this season, head coach David Smith, his colleagues, and their athletes shared one goal: improvement. From the sprinters and distance runners to the throwers and jumpers, each athlete has been working hard to get stronger both physically and mentally. The team has been operating on a meticulously planned schedule, emphasizing the importance of commitment. The outstanding dedication of MHS track athletes has resulted in incredible performances at their meets.

Mamaroneck Track and Field has fostered a group of talented athletes who all constantly pick each other up. When discussing the impact of the team’s encouragement for one another, Captain Arielle Nickerson (’26) noted that “everybody just supports each other and it’s such a fun time,” which is an essential part of not only the morale, but also the success of the track team. Nickerson plays a key role in both team morale and success, holding the female school records for the 200m, 300m, long jump, and high jump and as a member of the record-holding female 4x400m and 4x100m relay teams. She stands as a prime example of how attitude converts into success.

Even though Track and Field is a majorly individual sport, the synergy, connection, and camaraderie displayed by this team are truly unique. Captain Mark Lebowitz (’27) mirrored Nickerson’s enthusiasm when he shared that his favorite part of this season has been “the team spirit and the friendships [he’s] built,” and emphasized how “everyone is always pushing each other to get better.” Lebowitz, who has broken the male school records for the 55m, 100m, 200m (which pushed him to be ranked #1 in New York state), 300m, and 400m races, understands the importance of the team’s genuine support for one another, bringing home multiple gold medals in the process.

The bond that this team shares impacts every single person, and the community formed across grades has allowed athletes to feel at home not only on the track but also in the hallways of Mamaroneck High School. “It’s always a great feeling to share my knowledge with the next generation,” said Captain Ville Martinson (’26) when reflecting on how he impacts the younger athletes. Throughout his running career, Ville has done remarkable things, which can be measured both by stopwatches and the improvement of the runners whom he has guided.

As the regular season approaches its end, Mamaroneck Spring Track and Field has a lot to be proud of. Heading into league, section, and ultimately state championship meets, we wish our team the best of luck. Go Tigers!
