The Reese Brothers: A Twin Legacy

Jake and Owen Reese reflect on their time as Tigers before continuing their lacrosse careers at the Division I level.
The Reese Brothers: A Twin Legacy

Mamaroneck High School prides itself on cultivating an environment where students have the opportunity to succeed not only academically, but also athletically. Even while balancing their rigorous course loads, every year, Mamaroneck athletes continue to excel both in the classroom and in competition and compete at a high level for both their MHS team and club programs. Two of MHS’s standout seniors have excelled at competitive lacrosse and will continue to thrive in college. This dynamic twin duo was not only a part of the MHS record-breaking boys’ varsity basketball team this winter, but are also vital members of the Mamaroneck boys. varsity lacrosse team—the sport which both of them have chosen to pursue at a higher level.

Jake Reese (‘26)  has been playing lacrosse since 3rd grade, but his commitment intensified in eighth grade when he decided that he wanted to play lacrosse at the collegiate level and began to take the sport much more seriously.  Reese will be taking his athletic and academic talents to Princeton University, where he intends to major in economics while juggling a demanding course load along with the commitment of an NCAA Division I team. Reese emphasized that Princeton was the right fit for his goals “because of the prestigious academics as well as the excellent lacrosse team,” two qualities that reflect his values both as a student and an athlete.

Reese understands that the environment may be challenging, but he has developed skills throughout his athletic career that have prepared him to overcome anything he will be faced with. As both a basketball player and a lacrosse player, he shared that in order to succeed as a student-athlete,  “putting emphasis on your time-management skills and limiting procrastination” is crucial, allowing him to balance schoolwork, athletics, and time with friends. As Reese reminisces about his experience in the Mamaroneck High School lacrosse program, he reflects on the years spent surrounded by his teammates who have become lifelong friends. “What I will miss the most about MHS lacrosse is just having the ability to play every day with my best friends,” Reese notes.

Reese embodies MHS’s unofficial motto, “once a Tiger, always a Tiger,” and will represent the orange and black for four more years. Reese will be joining an impressively strong team, which, in May, took home the NCAA Division I Men’s National Lacrosse Championship trophy. We wish him the best in all of his future endeavors!

Owen Reese (‘26) has also been playing lacrosse since 3rd grade, and throughout his athletic career has participated in numerous other sports, including basketball and baseball. This fall, Reese will continue his academic and athletic careers at Siena University, where he will major in business. Reese was particularly interested in Siena because of its “great academic opportunities, as well as [its] great coaching staff,” and is excited to spend the next four years growing as a student and as an athlete at the Division I level.

Reese emphasized how his love for lacrosse changed his life, sharing that while he has taken part in multiple different sports and teams throughout the years, “as [he] got older, [he] really started to understand how important lacrosse was to [him], and started to think about playing at the next level.” That passion guided him throughout the recruitment process and kept him motivated to work hard both on and off the field, as well as focusing more heavily on lacrosse these past few years, even while he was helping the Mamaroneck Varsity boys’ basketball team reach record-breaking highs. “If you are really passionate about something, put in the work and the results will come,” he advises, emphasizing that “high school isn’t easy, and sports aren’t either,” but it is always worth it to keep pushing yourself.

Through sports at MHS, “you build great friendships you will never forget,” and Owen Reese is excited to continue thriving in Loudonville. We can’t wait to see all that he will do during his collegiate career. Go Saints!

The Reese brothers transferred to Mamaroneck a few years ago. They previously lived in the neighboring town of Rye Neck, but chose to move in order to play lacrosse on a Section 1, Class A team. When they moved to Mamaroneck, they also became a part of the boys’ varsity basketball team, which was a state semi-finalist this past season. Both credit Coach Barnard, the Mamaroneck boys’ varsity lacrosse coach, for helping them shape their athletic journeys. We wish the best for these brothers and cannot wait to see everything they do.
