On Sunday, May 31st, the Mamaroneck Tigers defeated Roy C. Ketcham High School Storm 2-0 to win the Section One Class AAA Baseball Championship. The Tigers beat the Storm to win their first Section One Championship since 2015 and to end Ketcham’s streak of four section wins in a row.
The team entered tournament play as League Champions and the 3 seed in the section. They opened the playoffs with a commanding 10-0 win over North Rockland and followed with a 10-4 victory over rivals Scarsdale, behind five stellar innings pitched from Oisin Daly (‘27). For the second straight year, they scored 10 runs over Scarsdale to avenge their two regular-season losses to the maroon team.
The ultimate test came in the semi-finals when they faced Ketcham. The Storm entered the matchup as four-time defending section champions after defeating Mamaroneck in the 2025 title game. Earlier in the season, Mamaroneck traveled to Ketcham and won 4-2, as pitcher Noah Bauer (‘26) threw his first of three complete games against Ketcham this season. In the semi-finals, Bauer threw another complete game, leading Mamaroneck to a 5-3 victory and sending them to the Section Championship. Since the tournament was double elimination, Mamaroneck needed just one more victory, while Ketcham would have to defeat the Tigers twice.
The Tigers were unable to clinch their section title on their first try, as they managed just one hit in their 5-0 loss on Saturday, May 30th. The next day, the winner-take-all matchup looked like another pitchers’ duel. No runs were scored until the 6th inning, when second baseman Luke Reagins (‘26) hit an RBI double to give the Tigers the lead. In the top of the 7th, catcher Kevin Comblo (‘27) doubled to extend their lead to 2-0. In the bottom of the 7th inning, Ketcham rallied to load the bases with one out. The deciding play came on a grounder to Will Plunkett (‘26), where the Tigers turned a clutch double play to end the game.
During the decisive double play, Comblo knew that his team would win the second the ball was hit. “When I saw it off the bat and saw it go to Will (Plunkett), I knew the game was over,” Comblo says. “It was such a great feeling to finally win the section. It is awesome for our captains and seniors to finally achieve this goal in their last season.” Comblo highlighted how the Tigers had battled throughout the season. “We faced a lot of adversity throughout the season, but we never stopped working as hard as we could.”
The baseball team’s success was part of a historic year for Mamaroneck Athletics. In the spring alone, Mamaroneck has captured section titles in baseball, flag football, and boys’ lacrosse. Over the school year, they have won eight, including state semifinalist teams in boys’ basketball and football. The baseball team, along with lacrosse and flag football, looks to continue its success in the state tournament to bolster the historic legacy left by the athletic class of 2026.
