Mamaroneck Boys’ Varsity Golf is back—and this time, they’re aiming to win it all. Coached by art teacher Adam Rizutti, they have emerged as a Section 1 powerhouse. They currently hold a strong 7-2 league record. In one of these victories, Murda Putt took down Scarsdale, an encouraging victory as the team looks to make Mamaroneck history with a section title.
This year, the team has focused on building chemistry beyond the greens. Even on poor performance days, they have developed the ability to pick each other up. As starter Will Cohen (’27) explains, “Our team’s core is so close on and off of the course, as many of us train together in the offseason.” This quality time has allowed the team to understand how to support each other both as friends and as teammates. While golf is inherently individual, the ability to treat it as a team sport ensures that a bad day for one person does not make the team lose momentum. Having this mindset helped break Mamaroneck Varsity Golf’s almost decade-long dry spell against Scarsdale in the regular season. This was crucial because the 2025 season was the first time the Tigers had beaten Scarsdale since 2016. Coming off this win against the maroon team, Mamaroneck looks to maintain its momentum as they move through the rest of the season.
This team is truly unique—most upperclassmen have been on the team since their freshman or eighth-grade year. As a result, there is so much energy and excitement surrounding what the team can accomplish this year. Last year, the Tigers advanced to sectionals for the first time in many years, but unfortunately fell to Scarsdale by only four shots. This year, they’re coming for that title. The team is led by junior Mikey Lelli, who’s been a part of the team for four years, and Senior Finn Kahl, who’s been on the team for three years. Both had impressive sectional campaigns of their own last year. The team’s strong motivation to win a section title is the driving force pushing everyone to be their best this season. The team is stronger than ever this year, and Mamaroneck Golf is determined to secure the Section title.
After a heartbreaking 4-shot deficit in sectionals last year, Mamaroneck enters 2026 with one goal: finish the job.
